Extremely high production in data-driven cucumber greenhouse BASF 's Gravenzande

Nunhem, 26 September 2022 - On 16 November 2021, the first high-wire cucumber crop was planted in the data-driven greenhouse of BASF's vegetable seed business in 's Gravenzande. The greenhouse was equipped with about 340 umol LED lights from Signify. The second and third crops were planted on 2 March 2022 and 15 June 2022, respectively.

BASF | Nunhems opens Tomato Experience Center in The Netherlands

Vattenfall and BASF sign contract with Vestas for latest 15 MW offshore wind turbines in Germany

Vattenfall and BASF have signed supply and service contracts with Vestas for 112 wind turbines of the type V236-15.0 MW. The state-of-the-art turbines will be used in the Nordlicht 1 and 2 offshore wind projects owned by Vattenfall and BASF in the German North Sea off the island of Borkum. From 2028, they will be able to produce electricity for the equivalent of 1.6 million households. Parts of the wind turbine towers will be fabricated with low-emission steel, significantly reducing the carbon footprint of the towers.

BASF researching CO2-neutral production of bio-based fumarate using bacteria found in cow stomachs

With the bacterium Basfia succiniciproducens, BASF would like to transform sugar and carbon dioxide into fumaric acid, an important intermediate for chemical production. To this end, the company is collaborating with Saarland University, University of Marburg and the University of Kaiserslautern-Landau in a joint research project entitled FUMBIO (FUMarsäure BIObasiert). The bacterium, which was isolated in 2008 from the rumen of a Holstein cow, will be genetically modified by researchers so that it produces large quantities of bio-based fumaric acid, also known as fumarate, during fermentation. With this intermediate, BASF can make a wide range of products with a low carbon footprint, including additives for food and animal feed, starting materials for medication, or building blocks for polymers and detergents and formulators.
